The Story of Amberton’s Investment Legacy.
2025
The latest Loan Note in the programme is launched marking over £125m assets under management to date. In addition, it was agreed that Amberton would support in the distribution of the Somerston fund set.
2017
The Somerston suite of funds were structured in 2017 to formalise the family office’s investment capability outside of property and private equity. On each occasion this saw considerable seed capital from Somerston, which now allows for select investors to invest alongside, benefitting from their analysis and conviction of strategy.
2016
Amberton launches its first in a series of Loan Notes, gathering private capital to successfully support a book of secured property debt originated by Sancus Group, in return for regular coupon for participants.
2015
Amberton is joint venture between its two shareholder Somerston and Sancus Group, founded with the key objective of delivery of risk adjusted returns to its clients. The group's access to property backed debt origination allow investors to participate lending opportunities on a diversified basis.
2013
Sancus was established to deliver alternative finance into the real estate market, growing rapidly over this period they have now funded over £1b of bridge and development debt. Subsequent to this, they moved to list on the AIM market, which saw Somerston position themselves as the largest shareholder. Sancus take the role of originating debt opportunity on behalf of group.
1960
In the late 1960’s, after over 100 years in the shipping business, Somerston made the decision to diversify its interests. By 1975, the last of the shipping interests had been sold and property development became the primary focus.
1854
Shareholder and key contributor Somerston Group is a 5th generation family office. Somerston’s origins date back to 1854 when Ralph Chapman first went into business as a ship’s agent and manager, taking partial ownership interest as payment.
